Here's our new kitchen
There’s been something cooking at Eastlea Community Centre – a brand new kitchen.
The centre won enough funding to be able to replace its kitchen, which has served up meals and snacks for groups and events in the building since 2001.
It was made possible by a grant of £10,000 from the National Lottery Awards For All, and £5,000 from Durham County Councillors Eddie and Jennifer Bell’s neighbourhood budget, via the East Durham Area Partnership. Both councillors called in to inspect the new kitchen.
It had been expertly fitted by contractor Lawrence Tasker, who made sure it made the best use of the space available.
Centre trustee Sharon Bell, who regularly cooks for the weekly luncheon club, said: “The old kitchen had served us very well, but after 20 years of constant use it was starting to look a bit tired.
“The new one is light and airy with modern appliances. It’s a pleasure to work in and we’re looking forward to serving up meals for a long time to come.”
